Mount Elgon in 8
days
Day
1 - Arrive in Nairobi and overnight at a
hotel. Day 2- we travel from Nairobi
to Mbale(Uganda) by shuttle bus. You will Pass
through the farming towns of Naivasha, NAkuru, Eldoret,
webuye and Finally Bungoma.There will be stop over at
Malaba border post where There will be border
formalities. Afterwards drive to Mbale for
overnight Accommodation at hotel Day
3 - Afterbreak, we drive to the park gate. We
will pass through Mbale border post for our to
passport to be stamped. The crew will be Waiting at
the Budadiri gate (1150mts). After a brief introduction
and Briefing we start the 4 hrs to Sasa river camp
(2900mts). This hike will take you through dense
montane forest and bamboo belt. In addition to the
varied birdlife, you may see black and white colobus
monkeys swinging in Trees, buffalo, different type of
antelopes and an occasional Leopard. Overnight at Sasa
river camp. Day 4 - Leave the camp
to tackle the last of the bamboo belt as
the Vegetation gradually changes to heath and
moorland. You will have good Views of the mountains
at Rangers patrol hut (3300mts). Proceed for lunch At
Mudeyes caves. Dinner andovernight is at Mude camp
(3500mts). You can optionally hike to Jackson’s peak
(4165mts) or relax at the camp. Day
5 - After an early breakfast start for
Wagagai Peak (4321mts). Continue hiking to caldera
Weather permitting and also to the hot springs. Return
to Mude camp for dinner and overnight. Day
6 - Early breakfast and start the 4-hrs hike to
Koitobos (4230mts) Where the Kenyan team will be
waiting. You will descend the Koitobos for camping
along the river. Picnic lunch will be served
enroute. Day 7 - Have breakfast at
leisure and descend to the road head where we Meet
with our vehicle for onward transfer to the park gate
where we camp For overnight. Day
8 - After breakfast we drive from the Park gate
towards Nairobi Passing through the farmlands of
Kitale, Trans- Nzoi, Eldoret and Nakuru before
reaching Nairobi later in the evening.
